All these were painted in the late 90s & early oughts:Ī collection of random Clan OmniMechs in what at the time was supposed to be Clan Ice Hellion colors. Here's some pics of what I pulled from storage. My 'Mechs and most of the terrain fared fairly well in storage. After playing Alpha Strike at PAX, I got the rulebooks, found another local player who'd been out of the game nearly as long as me (from the Boston Sci-fi Meetup Group) and dusted off my stuff. After I got up here I couldn't find anyone that wasn't playing that horrid Dark Age crap so my stuff went into storage and there it stayed until recently. I first started with old school BattleTech when I was in middle school in 1988 or so, and played fairly regularly until I moved to MA in 2003. I can post some pics of the actual mini later. For a plastic mech you don't have to assemble it looks pretty good.
This is from one of their new Alpha Strike lance packs. Here's an example of a card for a Victor class BattleMech: Doing a full game start to finish in a few hours (or much less for smaller games) is very possible, so it's BattleTech for people with other stuff to do. Some things do get lost a little in translation, but there are enough optional rules to add back in some complexity if you want. Once the rules are explained you can get turns done in 10 minutes or less, easily.

It manages to speed up gameplay immensely, and shrinks the record sheets from a full size of paper to the size of a playing card. Damage locations & weapons are abstracted, so there's much less record keeping involved.
I've played Alpha Strike at the last few PAX Easts, and have enjoyed it. I posted a thread about this a while back, but it didn't really go anywhere and I've since figured out a better way to get at my photos, so here we go again:
